Hangout Chat is re-branded as Google Chat
Google has introduced Google Chat by removing Hangouts brand from G Suite. The new application has been branded as Hangouts Chats. The branding change applies only to the enterprise version of Google’s products. The online chatting facility was available on Hangouts is embedded in to Google Chats. The new move resulted to drop the Hangout brand completely from the enterprise version of G Suite. G Suite provides services such that access to Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets as a paid version for enterprises.
However, the brand name Hangouts will go with regular consumer versions. A Google spokesperson expresses to The Verge about new launch,” There will be no changes to the consumer (classic) version of Hangouts”. The regular users are provided to access to the Hangouts version designed for consumers with their Gmail account and IOS or Android Device. Hangouts was referred as GChat originally which used to be very popular, till it lost the game to other instant messaging services, such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger etc… with the growth of smartphones.
Google is operating a separate App for video-conferencing which is Google Meet, was earlier referred to Hangouts Meet. However, this also can be used by enterprise users. Google Meet has seen a surge in users, which is not surprising consider the new work from home norms that are prevailing all across the world.
A blog post of Google reveals that beginning of this week they have identified about 2 million of users spending 2 billion minutes together every day by connecting to Google Meet. Calculations has proven that this is an average of conducting more than 3800 years of meetings. It had also announced that it was making advanced Google Meet video-conferencing capabilities available at no cost to all G Suite and G Suite for Education customers, which has been extended till September 30, 2020.
